Sangtae Ji (지상태, Ji Sangtae) is a minor character of How to Fight/Viral Hit.

History

Sangtae Ji was a strict father to Yeonwoo. He would discourage him from anything other than studying, and forced his son to drop karate because he feared it would be a distraction. Sangtae kept Yeonwoo on a strict schedule with little to no freedom. He even built a room inside Yeonwoo's room with a camera to make sure Yeonwoo didn't shirk his studies.

Sangtae became acquainted with Seongjun at some point in his political career. Seongjun proposed the idea of giving Yeonwoo a study channel so Sangtae wouldn't have to monitor him all the time. Sangtae began watching Yeonwoo's channel instead. He would do favors for Seongjun as thanks for helping him watch his son. The two of them worked together to mold Yeonwoo into the perfect student, with no desires other than to please his father.

Synopsis

Sangtae is first mentioned when Yeonwoo makes a call at Omakase June. It is later revealed to be his father whom Yeonwoo is always reporting to. He later reports to his father while taking a walk on his volunteering trip.

When Sangtae first hears about Yeonwoo quitting Newtube, he is livid. He slaps Yeonwoo and asks how he could disobey him, but Yeonwoo refuses to budge, saying that he just wants to be free from now on.

Sangtae in his anger interrupts Seongjun's meeting with the yakuza. He slaps Seongjun and tells him that he won’t be getting the permit now. As Sangtae is walking home, he calls for his men to blacklist those companies Seongjun requested. He is hit on the head by Chan Jeong and Minjeong on a motorcycle. Seongjun paid them to attack Sangtae for messing with his income. Sangtae manages to survive the attack and is hospitalized.

Hobin went to Yeonwoo with the evidence, saying that he can decide what to do with it. When Yeonwoo hears about the attack on his father he wants to go straight to the police but Sangtae stops him, saying he can’t report Seongjun without exposing his past as a corrupt politician. Sangtae tells Yeonwoo that exposing this will only damage their family's reputation.

Sangtae later watches as Yeonwoo goes on stream to reveal Seongjun's paid attacks on his father. He smiles in the hospital and tells Yeonwoo that he did the right thing.
